Home Renovation Trends For 2011

Due to the down economy and rising costs of living, most people are trying to add lasting value to their home through their renovations.  Smaller, environmentally friendly renovations are in for 2011.  Some of the top trends are:
1. Simple, minor kitchen renovations are increasing in popularity.  Replacing/upgrading countertops and refinishing cabinets are ways to add value to your kitchen at a fraction of the cost.
2. Popular colors for 2011 are warm, earth tones, which are calming and add a cozy feel to a home.  Homeowners are changing out fixtures and hardware for new oil-rubbed bronze, aged bronze and distressed looking ones in order to add warmth to their home.
3. Those who are taking on a bigger renovation this year are investing in their bathrooms.  It is a lot cheaper to renovate a bathroom rather than a kitchen.  Trends are showing that many people are opting to upgrade their showers, toilets, sinks and tubs and also adding dual shower heads, whirlpool tubs and even steam attachments to give their space a more spa like feel.
4. Environmentally friendly and energy efficient remodels are a continuing trend for 2011.  Many homeowners are installing energy efficient windows, lighting and appliances, as well as tank-less water heaters.  Also recycled and sustainable products like bamboo flooring, grass thatched roofs and bark siding are becoming popular.
